Now a days Dowry is a mental disease and curse for the society. Dowry is demanded by the grooms family at the time of wedding. Actually the defination you will get on internet is like that parents have to give dowry to daughter for her successful life or dowry is the distribution of property from parents to children. This tradition originates from eurasian societies(Japan to Ireland) and later on it was adopted by most of the countries of the world. Many countries saw its disadvantages by implementing it in their societies. Now there are very few countries who are following this system and from very few the top ranked in list of dowry death is sub-continent means Pakistan and India. Pakistan is on the top of dowry death report cases and on second its India in world statistical records. Now the question is how dowry is a disease for the society? Dowry that is mentioned in definations is actually opposite of that is implemented in the society. Concept of Dowry(Jahez / Dahez) which is implemented in pakistan and india is that groom's family demand a list of things and money from Bride's family. Now in most of cases parents want that their children remain happy specially for daughters , so some parents sell their own homes , properties,assests to see daughters happy , some parents sell their body organs to fulfill dowry requirements and sometimes parents and sometimes daughter do suicide attempts as they can't bear these mental torchers happening in society and are busted with words from people of society.

Any man asking for dowry from female is like a male prostitute who is selling himself for money. Here is also a pictorial view
And now i must say there must be markets with statistical charts and currents rates of those grooms who demand dowry. The charts should be self explainatory so that bride family think of it before talking for a relation of daughter. A chart as an example
Now my point is that it is a disease in our society and its effect i have read so many statistical data which mentions such as in pakistan from 2004 to 2009 there are recorded 3379 dowry killings and also in addition which are mentioned as property disputes with bride became 8041 women killed. Remind you of few days back in pakistan 4 sisters suicided collectively because their father was a farmer and was unable to fulfill demands of groom's families so daughters were also not happy to see their father in mental torcher so all of them attemted suicide in canal. In india every year average more than 2000 women became a victim of dowry death.In 2010 , in India 8,391 dowry deaths were reported.
This is basically not a dowry system but a barter system.Human values have lost their meanings due to the barter of dowry. And the biggest thing is not implemented upon any religion but on complete societies wether the family is Muslim , Hindu or christian etc.
Now as a Muslim I must quote some points about removal of dowry system from our societies.
First of all one thing to clear is that People associate dowry with islam as implemented in society let me explain what Islam says about dowry
In Islam "Dowry(Known as Mahr) is for women not for man"
A Verse from Holy Quran
"Give Women their dowries(Mahr) with a good heart"
(Al-Quran 04:04).
Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) Said :
- The best Of Marriages is one which is least burdensome in the financial sense to the families of the bride and the groom.(Mafhoom e Hadith).
Now I must say to the whole world that this disease is not only to specific religion , specific nation , specific country or specific race or color but collectively whole world. Now Join Hands to remove this disease from our societies , and this can't be managed at the scale of individual but it will be a collective decision.
